Technoramic

TIME COMMITTMENT: 4-8 HOURS PER WEEK

Technoramic Robotics is one of MICDS's three robotics teams that competes in the FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge) circuit, a global competition where teams around the world meet and compete.

When asked about what a Technoramic practice looks like, current junior and Technoramic member Selina Balci quotes:

"Our team is divided into subgroups for each part of the robot building process--CAD/Design, building, programming and a sponsorship category. Although most people are dedicated to one aspect of the robot building process, everyone is flexible and can help with anything if there is one part that needs more work."

Each year, after building their robots, Technoramic competes in point-based arenas. The tasks and functions that the robotics must tackle change yearly (past events include shooting hoops and to building structures), but according to the captain and founding member, Hasani Spann "the teamwork stays constant!"

So what do Technoramic members love the most about this team? Well according to the team captain and members, it's the team! Hasani elaborates:

"There are so many moving pieces that we have to work with at once: from building the pieces of our robot, to coding it, to promoting it and procuring sponsors for our team. It's an amazing experience working with everyone to bring these parts together: one that’s much more than just building a bot. Working alongside our other two teams, the program has become a community of its own"

Technoramic Robotics, like all the other robotics teams, are not recruiting new members until on-campus activities resume. However, once the COVID-19 threats subside, they will be working on rebuilding the team and continuing with its stride to regroup and come back strong! They plan to continue competing the FTC competition and are waiting to hear more specifics about how that will look like. On another note, Technoramic will be collaborating with other robotics teams and potentially creating a combined sign-up list for the Robotics Program. Stay tuned for more information!
