Rampunzel Robotics
TIME COMMITMENT: MEETINGS EVERY WEDNESDAY @3:30-7:30
Rampunzel Robotics is an all girls robotics team that competes in the First Tech Challenge (FTC) competition. Each year, they plan, design, program, and build a robot that will complete various challenges (in the past years, these have included stacking blocks to build the highest tower, climbing a ramp, using foam cubes to build a pattern, and balancing a scale )
Rampunzel's work is not limited to preparing for the FTC competition, however. They also organize multiple community outreach programs to help spread their mission of inspiring young women to pursue a career in STEM. Recently, they created children's picture book, and they are currently working on a part 2!
When asked about her experience as a Rampunzel member, Shelly Bhagat, a current junior and the captain, replied, "My favorite part of Rampunzel is probably the team. When I first joined the team in 7th grade, I was the youngest person and the older members were my mentors. Now, with this being my fifth year on the team, I get to be a mentor to the younger members. I love the people on this team so much and I enjoy spending practices (even the 4 hour ones!) and competitions with them!" Emma Scally, also a junior, shared that her favorite part is that "Rampunzel gives all girls a chance, no matter their skill level, to explore STEM."
Important Note for 2020: Because of COVID-19, the MICDS Robotics teams are not going to recruit new members until on-campus activities resume. Stay tuned for more updates!
