*STEM for all*
Hello everyone! We are super excited to announce the launch of STEMco! We have been working behind the scenes for a few months now, and it feels a little bit surreal creating our website.
We would like to start out by giving a huge shout-out to Mr. Shaw and Gretel Wurdack. Thank you Mr. Shaw for supporting us, giving us direction, and answering all of our limitless and infinite questions! Thank you Gretel for always believing in us, setting up the website, and spending countless hours being there for us!
How did we come up with STEMco? To be honest, our idea started as a mission to improve the communication of STEM opportunities to students. You might remember receiving some emails from your peers in early 2020 about ways to get involved in STEM. As the weeks passed by, we quickly realized that few students were actually reading these emails. Together, we decided that the best way to improve student participation in STEM would be to share these opportunities in a more interactive way. From this, our ideas slowly branched out to include accessible ways to find summer STEM opportunities, on-campus activities, and the rest that we currently have in place! As we solidified our ideas, we decided the best way to accomplish our goals would be to form a student led organization.
Since we are just starting out, we are not completely sure how STEMco will evolve over time, but we would like to give you our initial ideas! As shown by our mission statement, we do not only hope to improve the communication of STEM opportunities, but also unify and strengthen the bond between STEM clubs and activities on campus. Furthermore, we would love to make STEM more approachable for all the members of our community by promoting opportunities and hosting Q/A sessions with other students, alumni, and faculty.
At the moment, we are focusing on establishing our website, recruiting committed and creative members, and working closely with STEM clubs/activities.
